FOREST STONES, 1995
Forest Stones is a group of twenty-two fieldstones each inscribed with a word and set among the forest, rocks, trees and leaves. It is a physical meeting of poetry and forest. The impermanence of blossoms, growth and decay, sapling and snag are all part of the forest landscape. Silence, ancient sorrow and the solace of morning light are part of the human lifescape.
Forest Stones is permanently installed in the Acton Arboretum in Acton, MA. Visitors sometimes walk by the stones many times before seeing a few stones lit by the sun that catches their eye. Then, 'shelter' to 'branches'; or 'unborn' to 'fallen leaves' creates a moment of connectedness with the natural cycle of the forest.
