The Ox Herding Series

THE OX HERDING SERIES, 2005
Ten Sculptures of the Ox Herding Series

In Zen Buddhism, the Ox Herding Series is traditionally attributed to Kakuan, a twelfth century Chinese Zen master. He made a sequence of ink paintings with poems to help his students understand the stages of the path of enlightenment. Over the years, Zen Buddhist teachers and students as well as scholars have offered their own poems, commentary, and paintings to reveal these teachings.

Please visit The Ox Herding Series - A Spiritual Journey in the Artist Books section for the full text of the teachings.
